This was a front page story about a historical event in Mississauga - Citizen journalists or reporters considering giving them the same rights at a government Hearing as mainstream media.  Great lead-up but then self censorship takes place and story disappears!

The front page shot.

Mississauga News - Apr. 8, 2010 - By  Louie Rosella.

Inquiry to hear from 'citizen journalists'

"Citizen journalists" who want to record the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry hearings can make their case on Monday.

Justice Douglas Cunningham, the inquiry's commissioner, will hear submissions at the Burnhamthorpe Rd. W. courthouse from, "media other than licensed television outlets and established newspapers" who wish to photograph or electronically record the proceedings and have access to the media room and television feed.

A number of "citizen journalists" have expressed interest in recording proceedings, inquiry officials say.

The $2.5-million inquiry will begin hearing testimony on May 17. Among other undertakings, it will probe conflict of interest allegations against Mayor Hazel McCallion and the role of her son, Peter McCallion, in a $14.4-million failed bid by his company, World Class Developments Ltd., to purchase a 3.5-hectare parcel of land owned by the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).

The mayor, her son, the City of Mississauga, Enersource and OMERS, which owns Square One Shopping Centre, will all be represented at the hearings.
Under official Rules of Procedure for the Mississauga Judicial Inquiry, the use of television cameras or other recording, electronic or photographic equipment is at the direction of the commissioner.

Citizen journalists interested in making submissions on Monday are asked to e-mail Associate Commission Counsel Naomi Loewith at nloewith@mississaugainquiry.ca.

Proceedings start at 10 a.m.

We don't HAVE television in Mississauga. Just Rogers Cable 10

--a way for City of Mississauga to enter your living room through your TV screens.  I got zero problem with using only traditional television provided ALL of the Judicial Inquiry is televised.  That's what's meant by PUBLIC inquiry. And that the material can be used as FAIR USE.  Otherwise, I got enough Ritualized Drama of Mutual Pretense with MYTHissauga Council meetings thank you very much.
