Land swap a good deal all around

The City of Mississauga and the Peel Board of Education have made a land swap that should benefit both parties.

City councillors have approved an exchange of properties of City lands, beside the South Common Leisure Pool, for school board lands near the site of Cawthra Secondary School.

The City recently constructed a new parking lot beside the leisure pool. The nearby South Common Community Centre is being renovated with construction of a new library as part of the project.

The new parking lot removed play space beside Erin Mills Senior Public School. The swap ensures that some of that space will be retained beside the school.

The City will use the property it is acquiring on the Cawthra park site for parking for the new community centre it is building to serve the southeast section of the municipality.

"It's a win-win situation for everybody," commented Ward 8 Councillor Katie Mahoney of the arrangement.
