Toronto Star - Sept. 07, 2007 - By Bob Mitchell, Staff Reporter An off-duty Peel Police officer has been charged Justin Vandenbrink, 25, of Georgetown, is the second Peel Police officer this week to be charged with a criminal offence. He has been with the force for five years. Yesterday, Sean Osborne, 32, was charged with perjury and assault causing bodily harm in connection with his actions during an arrest and his subsequent testimony at a trial in Brampton. He's to appear in a Brampton court Oct. 1 In the latest charge, Halton Police arrested the off-duty officer when he arrived at Milton District Hospital just after 12 p.m. yesterday to be treated for minor injuries. Police were already at the hospital in connection with a single motor vehicle collision where a 30-year-old man sustained a concussion and other minor injuries. A 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier had rolled over shortly before 2 a.m. on Thursday on Derry Rd. west of the Sixth Line in Milton. Police determined the driver of the crashed vehicle had left the scene, leaving his injured passenger still in the vehicle. Investigators said the car was traveling east on Derry Rd. when it entered a curve just west of Sixth Line. The vehicle skidded and left the roadway before rolling into the north ditch. After rolling several times, it ended up about 57 metres from the road. Halton Police spent the rest of the morning trying to locate the registered owner of the vehicle when he showed up at the hospital just after 12 p.m. Vandenbrink was charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident. He has been suspended with pay and is to appear in a Milton court on Oct. 15. Home Page - Main Table of Contents - Back up a page - Back to Top [COMMENTS BY DON B. - ] |
