Opening comments:  More at the end.

The Liberal Leader Stephane Dion unveiled the Liberal platform for Law & Order and personally promised me to look into the matter I raised.
The sound clip of the promise is on this page.

I wonder why the Globe & Mail did not note my question to Stephane Dion, it was a good one with a local interest - maybe they have a right-wing or Troy BIAS?

Globe & Mail - Mar. 14, 2007 - By Canadian Press

Dion calls for more police officers

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Stephane Dion says a Liberal government would get tough on crime by providing more money to the provinces to hire additional police officers and Crown attorneys.

The Liberal leader, who unveiled the party's new law-and-order platform today in Mississauga, Ont., said the Conservative government has failed to deliver on its promise to hire 2,500 new officers.

The platform includes, among other things, $200 million for the RCMP to help combat gun and gang activity and drug trafficking, as well as to toughen laws to protect society's most vulnerable.

Mr. Dion also wants to strengthen laws to protect children from Internet luring, and will take the advice of the federal privacy commissioner by better safeguarding seniors against identity theft.

He said companies should be forced to notify consumers if their private information is leaked so they can better avoid becoming a victim of identity theft.

Mr. Dion said he also supports the Tory initiative for reverse onus bail hearings, which would require those accused of gun crimes to prove they aren't a danger before being released.
