The Great Mississauga Flash Flood - July 8 2013 - Part III - Flood an underpass & they will keep coming!!
After the July 25, 2013, public meeting, I sat down and wrote this letter - sending to the City and media, in hopes it would get the City to change the way it was doing things. _________________
Emergency - What flooding Emergency? At the Ward 1 community meeting - 7:00PM at the Cawthra Seniors Centre, 1389 Cawthra Rd., to inform residents on the events of the "July 8th storm" in Mississauga.
I asked the question most on peoples minds - this was as many hoped the meeting would be their City fully coming to their help, not to re-educate them about weather. The question was how many people were made homeless by the flooding - ! One of the biggest emergencies Mississauga has faced in decades and weeks after it happened & its effect are still being felt, no one knows how many lost it all.
There are many ways to explain why the facts that would be used to define a state of emergency are not being gathered. But if there was a state of emergency would that not be of great value to those suffering?
Many things need to be rethought about way City responding to this "emergency", if I dare use the word. I hope the City will get the numbers of how many & how affected together fast so we all can see how much of an "emergency" the July 8th flood was, after all how can the City respond appropriately to a wave of human (taxpayer) suffering if don't know the facts? And how are we to judge those who jobs are to look out for us, without the main facts?
People were walking out early because they felt the graphs about climate change & the City's idea of what the "response" should be to their concerns, was too like the high tide of sewage that forced them from their homes in the first place!
