Page - - Mississauga News, Apr, 23/95 Woodlot in good hands An advisory committee established to help the City develop a woodlot management plan has attracted a number of highly qualified professionals. "It's a win-win situation," says Bob Williams, manager of Parks Mississauga. "The quality and qualifications of the people who've applied is quite gratifying." Williams says the City will be able to get advice on every aspect of woodlot management from the six-person committee because of their educational or professional back grounds. "We've got people from zoology, biology and with experience in wetlands development or redevelopment." The genesis of the committee stems from the City's decision in 1994 to go into the Cawthra woodlot to do some tree-cutting. That prompted criticism from naturalists who questioned whether all consequences of the work were considered. They were concerned the City heeded advice from foresters, but may not have considered the overall impact on other aspects of the woodlot. About half of the originally planned cutting has been done, with the rest suspended until further consideration. "The mandate of the committee is to help us develop a comprehensive woodlot management plan," says Williams.
[COMMENTS BY DON B. - Win-Win? Well maybe for the City and the persons on the committee but not for residents. This committee was set up at it was pointed out to the City that their staff was not capable of doing the job of managing environmentally significance areas like the Cawthra Bush. Cut backs. And besides why have residents blame City staff when you can get others to take the heat? Again the Mississauga News tells people the City has looked after everything so you not concern yourself further on this issues.
