Stunned and Appalled Dear Editor:Re: “Charges weren’t in order,” editorial opinion in the Jan. 2 edition of The News. I was stunned and appalled to read how a 13-year-old boy was arrested merely for highlighting a vicious assault. I don’t appreciate my hard-earned tax dollars being wasted on police bringing frivolous charges. (Posting the fight video to Facebook) was a stupid and immature thing for the boy to do, but let’s face it, a 13-year-old boy is more interested in computer games than in analyzing the repercussions of his actions. Does this boy have the life skills to realize the consequences of his actions? Of course not. Traumatizing him by arresting him over a silly mistake is a matter of grave concern. Peel Regional Police used heavy-handed tactics in dealing with this, handcuffing the boy for posting a video. This is Canada, not some dictatorial Banana Republic. For the crowd this was simply entertainment. Now the shoe is on his foot and he is the unfortunate entertainment. Serves as a lesson that the fight club party and the side line cowards are not welcomed in our community. Good use of my tax dollars.
