Mississauga News - June 28, 2007 - By John Stewart Demolition delayed ... again
There's been another postponement of the demolition of the powerhouse at Lakeview Generating Station, but officials are confident the big bang should happen later this morning.
The demolition of the powerhouse of the coal-fired station that operated for 42 years on the shores of Lake Ontario was scheduled to take place this morning at 7:30 a.m.
But since winds were again not blowing strong enough out over the water, it has been delayed. Officials want to minimize the dust for residents and businesses in the area.
"The demolition guys are confident that it will go later this morning, probably between 9 and 10 (a.m.)," said Ontario Power Generation spokesman Ron Osborne at the site.
A larger crowd has gathered today for the event, perhaps because of the publicity about the oft-delayed implosion. It was originally to have taken place Monday and then again yesterday.
While they wait for the boom, Lakeview residents and others gathering to see the end of the station are being treated to free coffee and doughnuts from Tim Hortons.
