Dear Editor:

Re: Letter from Murray D. Walker, March 19 issue, “Where are her backers?”

Mr. Walker asked where the (Ward 6 Councillor Carolyn) Parrish supporters are. What does that have to do with how viable a candidate is? Do you only cast your ballot in favour of the most popular candidate?

Before last year, I, too, held a negative view of Parrish. After attending seven council meetings and many committee meetings, I came away with a very different understanding of the job and the people doing it for us.

I am quite impressed with many of our councillors and staff. To the question of why anyone would cast a vote in Parrish’s direction — I would have to when, on issue after issue, I listened to the debate and realized we held very similar views.

I do commend Mr. Walker for taking his opinion to the press, but suggest he brings an open mind and attends a council meeting or two before voting in October.

Yep. I can confirm that Mr. Forde attended several meetings

And can confirm that Mr. Forde is the only other member of the public to ever attend an Audit Committee meeting. Happened to be one memorable meeting, actually. Two non-City people showed up for the VERY FIRST TIME at that meeting. Mr. Forde and the Mississauga News. Yep, took Mississauga News until 2009 to walk through the door of the City's Audit Committee. Haven't seen them since.
