VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Urban Forest Management Advisory Committee

Interested citizens are invited to apply for committee membership for the Urban Forest Management Advisory Committee (UFMAC). This Committee acts as an advisory body to City Council and staff involved in the Urban Forest Management Program.

Responsibilities:

1 To advise and assist in the development of management principles and strategies, as well as the implementation, monitoring and review of urban forest management plans.

2. To examine issues which may affect city owned forests.

3. To promote public awareness of Mississauga's city owned forests through an educational program which explains the nature of the committee, draws attention to the goals and objectives of the City's Urban Forest Management Program and the ways individuals and groups can assist.

4. To advise and recommend to the Community Services department and to Council, studies which would assist in the resolution of ecological/ environmental problems.

The Committee will be comprised of six professional residents of Mississauga, staff members from the Community Services department and two members from City Council.

Qualifications:

Individuals must have a high level of practical and/or academic expertise in one or more of the following areas: Zoology, Resource Management, Hydrology, Environmental Planning, Ecology, Natural History, Pedology, Botany, Biology or forestry.

Preference will be given to individuals who have relevant work and/or academic training in one or more of the above mentioned disciplines. A variety of work experience in several disciplines is a definite asset.

Selected candidates are required to attend a majority, if not all, committee meetings.

Committee members must be residents of Mississauga.
