Let voters decide Dear Editor: Comments by others, 8, to this web-page; Think About It Nov 1, 2009 11:51 AM Postponing our municipal elections until all the facts are in make good practices that would eliminate public relations consultants from scavenging off 24/7 campaign advertising? The Mississauga Muse Nov 1, 2009 9:58 AM In a previous comment, I'd written, "Mr. Wahl and all the other opposing this judicial inquiry didn't squawk when municipal elections were changed..." No excuse for my carelessness when Mr. Wahl had clearly supported the inquiry when he wrote, "This inquiry is one very uncomfortable ride that we the people, like it or not, are going to have to take; it is long over due." I keep going back to this but $2,100 worth of Freedom of Information confirms what Mr. Wahl wrote. The judicial inquiry into MYTHissauga IS long overdue! The Mississauga Muse Oct 30, 2009 2:21 PM Ahhhhh! Another person who knows how Mississauga became MYTHissauga. The real killer, is these "Ooooooooooooo our Hazel is wonderful! She's the best Mayor in the World. Mississauga is the greatest City in the World" is that surely these people can't be self-aware. I'm sure they went up to the microphone proud of the stand they were taking (never mind that many a reptilian brain presented zero facts just a GUUUUUUUUUUUSH of emotion). It creeped me out. If these same people were shown a 1930's documentary on the earliest days of the Third Reich they'd see zero rellevance to what transpired inside Council Chambers. The greatest irony is Maja Prentice who opposed the judicial inquiry bragging about how she has zero problems with anyone monitoring her Blackberry because "she has nothing to hide". So why's Prentice so opposed to a judicial inquiry? Pssst. If you've got nothing to hide then you've nothing to fear. Right? * Agree 3 The Mississauga Muse Oct 30, 2009 2:10 PM A reminder (since most people screaming "Go to the polls now" don't bother with such mundane things as knowing what's going on and doing homework) that the McGuinty Government passed Bill 130 Amendments to the Municipal Act, that was to hail in a new era of Accountability. Mr. Wahl and all the other opposing this judicial inquiry didn't squawk when municipal elections were changed from the regular three years to every four years and now making municipal governments LESS accountable. Now these people cry for ELECTION! It's unfortunate the only elected officials have to declare direct or indirect pecuniary interest. man have to say I'd love to have known about the direct or indirect pecuniariy interest of the people I witnessed go up there Wednesday, Can't prove, mind you but many were from the Wards 1, 2 and 8 (that rich South-tail that wags the MYTHissauga dog) Got to wonder how many paper shredders started shredding when those six Councillors stood up. The Mississauga Muse Oct 30, 2009 2:00 PM It is my hope that what happened inside Mississauga Council Chambers on Wednesday will one day be seen for what it was. The Chamber filled with MYTHissauga's special interest groups (Corporate Grants addicts, real estate agents, developers, including none other than Harold Uber-Builder Shipp) Listening to these people going up there one after one after another was just embarrassing. The LACK of reasoned DISCOURSE! Singing McCallion's praises. And the BIZARRE OFF-THE-WT-eF-WALL of Shipp's "Let entomb Our Hazel inside Council Chambers when she dies" plea is, frankly, Spectre-of-Lenin-sick. This adulation --suggesting any POLITICIAN be above scrutiny is not just scary but the DISEASE of MYTHissauga. $$$People$$$ who've benefitted from duping the rest of us for 30 years with "Trust, Quality, Excellence" and making it IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to prove otherwise. If the rest of MYTHissauga is as unethical as its Security operation, ho boy was this judicial inquiry looooooooong overdue. * Agree 2 Stephen Wahl Oct 30, 2009 9:45 AM An election before the enquiry has begun let alone come to any conclusions; now that would be a waste of time and money. What if the inquiry finds evidence of wrong doing; what if it does not? To have an election now we would be voting in wanton ignorance instead of the usual blissful ignorance everyone seems to pride themselves on as citizens of Mississauga. This inquiry is one very uncomfortable ride that we the people, like it or not, are going to have to take; it is long over due. * Agree 2 M.MURDOCH Oct 30, 2009 6:07 AM Mr. Kaisosky hit the nail on the head! The political back-biting at city hall is detrimental to the day-to-day operation of our great city. Ms. Parrish made a fool of herself and brought shame to Canada on the federal level. Now she wants to represent the great city of Mississauga? Ms. Parrish, if you truly believe you are the right person for the role of Mayor, stop tap-dancing around the issue, show some back-bone and run against Ms. McCallion in the next election. I can't think of a more expedient way of having you tossed out of council altogether, thus allowing our beloved Mayor and the copuncil to get back to the business of running this great city without the hienas scheming in the shadows and being paid from my tax dollars. j_mason Oct 29, 2009 9:32 PM It's time for a vote. The residents of Mississauga should have an election. Councillor Parrish (leader of the gang) desires to have the mayor's seat that she will never earn but wants to take it. So lets have the fight. Not the $2.5 to $6M for this farce. But an election now!! And let the people, in this democratic society decide. Let's go to the polls and end this fight. And the leader of the gang may meet her Waterloo, finally. Ottawa got rid of her, so can we.!!! Home Page - Main Table of Contents - Back up a page - Back to Top [COMMENTS BY DON B. - ] |
