Seabrook Mayor should retire Dear Editor:David Miller isn’t the only politician who should call it a day — Hazel McCallion should retire or be thrown out of office. The events swirling around her in recent ‘conflict of interest’ events, which involved the possibility of tens of millions of dollars flowing into her son’s bank account, the video tapes contradicting her claim that she had declared a ‘conflict of interest,’ and the minutes of that same meeting recording that she had declared a conflict of interest were in fact recorded in “error,” should spell the end to her political future. As David Peterson, former premier of Ontario, observed in the Toronto Star, “Eventually, everybody either gets thrown out or retires. And I think the half-life of a politician is far less now than it used to be. People are very tough on politicians.” Both McCallion and the citizens of Mississauga should take Peterson’s observations seriously.
