File: OZ 02/023 W1 The Cawthra Bush will be as Peter Lyons, the City's Urban Ecologist has said, be pounded into the ground by surrounding development. The Cawthra Bush has both Provincially and National significance due to the species that live in there. In fact a new species of concern has been found! The existing character of the community (deep & wide single home lots), has protect the Cawthra Bush and must continue to do so, for the Cawthra Bush to remain a Natural Heritage treasure for future generations. The Northmount community is a success story of an urban community living along side an Old-growth ecosystem. As the City has refused to recognize our Ratepayers group, the Cawthra Ratepayers' and Residents' Association (CRRA); as the City refuses our Freedom Of Information request, so necessary to discover the facts and understand the issues; as City Planners and the Ward 1 Councillor have refused to even talk to Mr. Barber about this issue; as numerous other acts of denial of service or harassment have occurred, the City should not gain from these unfair methods, they should be ended and the process begun again. That there should be a full disclosure of documents to the CRRA and City staff should fully cooperate with the CRRA Chair, Mr. Barber. And, as Carmen Corbasson, the Ward 1 Councillor, has promised in Council Chambers to aid the community in changing the local zoning that allows for townhouses. We call upon her to carry out her promise and her promise of lower densities for this development, in recognition of past public comments. That only single homes should be built on Northmount Ave. and the zoning for townhouses should be removed. As the long term damage that will be done by this and the townhouse subdivisions to follow will destroy the existing community that taxpayers have invested years, tens of thousand of their dollars creating a safe & livable community. A success story for the community to enjoy - not for others to exploit and profit from. The Character and Identity of the community is specifically protected by Mississauga's Official Plan(s) and new building are to be "compatibility with surrounding land use", which is clearly not the case. This sets a dangerous precedence. The long term effects, traffic increases, those who move in and have yards so small that they not able to relate to the existing community values & culture. These are just some of the reasons that will result in the elimination of Northmount's unique character. NO, to "INTENSIFICATION" in the Northmount area. As there has been made so many changes to the original development proposal, "amended the Site Plan Application", the planning process should be started over.
