— May 11, 2000, Thur. - by John Saunders Agency stalls sale of land to developer targeted in probe TORONTO – The Ontario Realty Corp. has refused to complete a $1.98-million sale of land in Aurora to developer Frank Gabriele, a target of a corruption probe at the provincial agency. In a statement filed in Ontario Superior Court this week, a lawyer for a Gabriele family company said the agency rejected an attempt to close the deal on March 15, giving no reason. An ORC official, Judith Baird, said yesterday: "That deal is on hold. It's not cancelled, but it's on hold." The site is north of Cardinal Carter High School near Bloomington Road and Yonge Street. According to court documents, it was the last of nine provincial properties scheduled to be sold to companies related to Mr. Gabriele. The lawyer's statement, filed on behalf of P. Gabriele & Sons Ltd., says the company stands to lose $90,000 spent on such items as a site survey, a preliminary engineering study, a traffic study, a tree study, an archeological assessment and planning advice, plus potential development profits.
