The BIG Sister of Mississauga, the Mayor Hazel McCallion is watching and keeping track of me - "A copy of each request shall be forwarded to the Mayor's office for logging and follow-up. " More signs that McCallion is a power and control freak! She has to know everything I am doing & finding out - WHY? This is at the very start of the effort to save the Cawthra Bush why is she taking this attitude toward a community leader? Makes you wonder how many other community leaders are being spied upon. Maybe that is why City security dress all in black - they are Hazel McCallion's SS. In this case it would look, on the surface, as they were helping me get records for the good of the community but in fact by assigning an "appropriate contact person in each department", meant I was blocked from talking to other City staff. Denied the chance to discover all the facts as the "contact person" was very tight lipped about many things and offered no way to get things but through them. Also, the cost of photocopying by this method more than twice the rate for FOI requests. Also, this access to City records sounds good but as in the case of a truly evil dictatorship, it was just setting a trap. In a FOI Appeal a report was filed about this non-FOI access, which I knew nothing about, so could not counter its claims and you can be sure it was not in my favor as the City was trying to keep the Mayor's promise that I not get City records - and they did. I was promised (in writing), that in this Appeal, there would be access to all material filed by the City and that was a falsehood. In fact this secret evidence was presented in a secret Hearing to end my FOI requests for the benefit of the community. How is this for the kind of Democracy the Hazel McCallion is comfortable with? Memorandum DATE: December 4, 1995 TO: John Lohuis, Community Services FROM: Dave O'Brien, City Manager RE: Mr. Don Barber's Service Request Mr. Don Barber wrote to the Mayor on November 14, 1995, expressing concern over the handling of requests for service and/or information. The Mayor responded to his letter advising that all future correspondence from Mr. Barber will be directed to the appropriate contact person in each department to ensure timely and complete responses. (Copy of the Mayor's letter is attached for information). Effective immediately, I request that the following procedure be used to co-ordinate Mr. Barber's requests for information. i) All requests under the Freedom of information (FOI) Act be addressed to Joan LeFeuvre FOI Officer. ii) Specific requests for information be forwarded to the appropriate departmental representative to ensure that all answers are timely iii) The department representatives will co-ordinate written answers and arrange appropriate meetings with staff as required. iv) Counter and/or secretarial staff are to use normal customer service procedure in handling correspondence. v) Mr. Barber shall be required to pay appropriate fees for all services including photocopying.
