Roberts demonstrated in the Nov. 4 letter to the Editor is a lack of knowledge regarding the use of ecological principles as a basis for management activities conducted in natural areas in urban settings. Mr. Barber should be applauded for his efforts in trying to cause the City of Mississauga to establish specific management objectives for work in the Cawthra woods. Management decisions must be supported by factual information, ecological principles, modem forestry practice and the interests of the community. The current lack of quantitative data regarding the Cawthra property precludes any meaningful and cost effective work being done. G. Roberts' ideas may be suitable horticultural activities but are at best questionable for environmentally significant areas such as the Cawthra Woods. Ray Kissel - Mississauga
