CBC Radio Show - Oct. 2, 2007 - http://www.cbc.ca/radioshows/AS_IT_HAPPENS/20071002.shtml TORONTO 18 LAWYER Abdul Qayyum Jamal made headlines last summer. He was the eldest in a group of mostly young Muslim men accused of plotting and training for terrorist attacks in Canada. Targets reportedly included Parliament Hill, CSIS buildings and the CBC. Last week, their cases were dealt a surprising blow. Crown prosecutors abruptly ended the proceedings with a preferred indictment ... meaning all of the remaining 14 suspects will go directly to trial. The reasons for this are not clear; there is a publication ban on court proceedings. But, for Mr. Jamal, who was facing some of the most serious charges, last week wasn't all bad news. Anser Farooq is that lawyer (www.anserlaw.com). He's in Toronto. Home Page - Main Table of Contents - Back up a page - Back to Top [COMMENTS BY DON B. - ] |
