Former mayoral candidate charged with assault

courthouse last week, has been charged with assault following an altercation at his home on Sunday night.
Former mayoral candidate Donald Barber says he's been asked to sign a peace bond or face trial on an assault charge laid by Peel Regional Police following an altercation at his Lakeview home over the summer.
Police say Barber, 56, was taken into custody Aug. 26 after an argument between he and another person escalated.
The other person, a 38-year-old Mississauga woman, wasn't injured, according to police.
Barber was granted bail and says, in a YouTube video, that bail conditions have forced him from his home and into a homeless shelter in Toronto.
One of the conditions stipulates that Barber not reside at the Lakeview home.
He also says in the video that the Peel Crown Attorney's Office has offered him a peace bond, which would require him to sign court documents indicating he'll keep the peace and essentially stay away from the alleged victim in exchange for the charge being withdrawn.
If Barber doesn't sign the peace bond, he'll likely go to trial.
Barber was in court in August with his father, Harvey Barber, who pleaded not guilty to violating a City of Mississauga property standards order to clean up his property.
Neighbours complained last December about a large amount of garbage and recycling piled on the Barbers' lawn and driveway.
A bylaw officer charged Harvey Barber after he failed to meet the deadline to clean up the property.
Neighbours say the property is much cleaner now.

This stuff is so comical, I can’t help myself. However my father taught me that it’s wrong to make fun of other people’s miseries. Therefore, I would like to apologise completely to the Barber’s neighbors. My bad.
