Mississauga News - July 21, 2009 - Letter by Umbrine Fatima In office too long Dear Editor:It was a sad day indeed when the democratic right of the public to question city councillors was quashed to a 15-minute maximum. Mayor Hazel McCallion has been in office for too long and the power has gone to her head, or she would not have dared warn a presenter to, "be careful, you misuse the freedom we've granted and the leniency that we've granted". What she has forgotten is that we, as citizens, have granted her the privilege to serve the office of the City of Mississauga. Worldwide, the new trend is publicly elected officials turning into dictators or totalitarians. Perhaps a new term must be invented for such governments and their officials ? demo-totalitarians! Donald Barber is not alone. People like him are being silenced slowly, but surely. The wisdom of the ages, forgotten by us. Why. Because if politicians are in longer, they will make sure only those who will agree with them and loyal to them are on staff. Power corrupts, the longer it is possessed, the likelier. Again, nothing we shouldn’t know, especially in the land that accountability forgot, Mississauga. Blame little old me, how is that possible. Does the Mayor think we are that dumb. Well, Mississaugans do keep electing the same Councillors over and over. How bad have they got. Documents show a secret trail, a secret City security program and the Mayor saying a COUP out to get her. Far too many facts to enlighten those who care to know, if you want to know more try cawthra-bush.org or more political at the-democratic-reporter.com. MISSISSAUGAWATCH Jul 22, 2009 4:46 PM (I file Freedom of Information as well.) Love your suggestion, "Perhaps a new term must be invented for such governments and their officials — demo-totalitarians!" You've described exactly how the City of Mississauga operates. I fear too that Mississauga municipal governance is not alone in its faux-democracy --its illusion, its sham. As you know, for what most Canadians believe to be "democracy" you need an informed citizenry. After all, citizens need facts/issues upon which to base our votes, correct? However, we have politicians (and public servants) at all three levels of government whose primary goal is to Stay in Power --fluffing their nests. That means Controlling the Message –sending Positive, Positive, “We are a caring, efficient team of government professionals committed to you” communiqu?s, while limiting the Donald Barbers who are trying to warn citizens, “LOOK! This is the Stink-to-High-Heaven Open Sewer that Freedom of Information reveals!” www.mississaugawatch.ca * Agree 1 Home Page - Main Table of Contents - Back up a page - Back to Top [COMMENTS BY DON B. - ] |
