A Peel Regional Police officer charged with sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman will be back in court on Jan. 24.

Cst. Slavko Salajko was arrested last year following a three-month probe by the Province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU).  The SIU was contacted on July 13 regarding a complaint of a sexual nature that's alleged to have occurred after police were called to an incident in Mississauga.

Salajko, who works out of the force's Marine Unit in Port Credit, has been charged with sexual assault.  The nine-year veteran has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the case.

The SIU investigates reports involving police where there has been a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault to determine whether charges are warranted.
