A Peel Regional Police officer has been charged with sexual assault following a three-month probe by the Province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
SIU director Ian Scott said today (Tues. Oct. 25) that he has reasonable grounds to "believe that a Peel Regional Police officer committed a criminal offence in relation to an incident involving a 22-year-old woman."

The SIU was contacted on July 13 regarding a complaint of a sexual nature that's alleged to have occurred after police were called to an incident in Mississauga.

Cst. Slavko Salajko, who works out of the force's Marine Unit in Port Credit, has been charged with sexual assault.  He is a nine-year veteran of the force and has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the case in court.

Salajko will be in court on Dec. 5.

"As this matter is now before the courts, and in consideration of the fair trial interests of the charged officer and the community, the SIU will make no further comment pertaining to this investigation," Scott said.

The SIU investigates reports involving police where there has been a death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault to determine whether charges are warranted.
