Toronto Star article with more comments.

This article does note good points - "Halton Regional Police arrested", that is right, another police dept. has no problem arresting violent officer.  Would have love to listen to Jason Ross try to talk his way out of that one - Hay you can't arrest me I'm copper like you!  Bothers in arms!

"failed to follow proper procedures", in the unlawful hunting down, capturing and beating of two innocence Canadians, I wonder what those "proper procedures" would have been.  Good wording to note events and lead reader to know the injustice that took place.

Officer charged with assault

A Peel Regional Police officer who earlier this year was disciplined for his role in hunting down two men who videotaped a rowdy police booze party has been charged with assaulting his ex-wife's boyfriend.

Halton Regional Police arrested the officer Monday following an incident at a Georgetown home.  Investigators say the officer was off-duty when the alleged assault occurred.

Investigators say they were called to a woman's home Monday around 2 a.m. after a 9-1-1 caller reported an altercation.

Police determined a man entered the home, assaulted another man and left.  The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Const. Jason Ross, 34, has been charged with assault, being unlawfully in a dwelling house and breach of recognizance.  He appeared in court yesterday.

Ross works out of 11 Division in Mississauga. He has been with the Peel force for seven years.

He has been suspended with pay and will face an investigation under the Police Services Act, in addition to the criminal charge, according to Peel Const. JP Valade.

Three months ago, Ross was one of 24 officers who was disciplined as part of an internal affairs investigation, believed to be the largest ever in the province in terms of the number of officers charged.

Ross pleaded guilty to discreditable conduct under the Police Services Act and was ordered to work seven days without pay, this past June during a disciplinary hearing.

Ross admitted to consuming alcohol in a public place while off-duty in the early morning hours of Aug. 28, 2006 and failed to follow proper procedures when detaining and questioning Mississauga residents Richard Cimpoesu, 24, and Orlando Canizalez, 20.

They claim they were chased down and punched in the head and body after several officers who were drinking beer and acting rowdy behind the Ethan Allen furniture store in Erin Mills caught the two men videotaping them.

Despite allegations of assault, none of the officers were charged with excessive use of force under the police act, and there were no criminal charges laid.

Canizalez and Cimpoesu have filed a $12-million lawsuit against the Peel Police force, which is still before the courts.
