Can't you hear the swearing and cursing from City hall ask those who replace the Mayor hear this non-news?
The timing of this announcement is very interesting as it come right in the middle of a number of this.

One more time for Hazel

Running on.
Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion says she will run in next year's municipal election.

Mayor Hazel McCallion made the not-so-surprising announcement today that she will run again in the upcoming 2010 municipal election.

While fishing in the Great Ontario Salmon Derby on Lake Ontario, McCallion, 88, told The Toronto Sun that she intends to seek re-election for a 12th term.

McCallion has never lost an election and in the 2006 election, she took 92 per cent of the vote.

"Yes. I am going to be offering my services to the City of Mississauga," she told The Sun. "People keep asking me. I will run again if my health is (good)."  Mississauiga's infrastructure needs will be her main objective in the next term, she said.

Meanwhile, Ward 6 councillor Carolyn Parrish, who makes it no secret that she would like to be mayor of Mississauga someday, said she will not run against McCallion.

"I would lose," she said. "And I have too much respect for her to run against her."

Worse in the Wings...

(looks left, looks right) --this is between just you and me, DeValera, okay? But I've had a troubling glimpse of those "After Hazel" so that's got me hoping McCallion stays Mayor a whole lot longer! Really, the others --are *WORSE*! After all, NONE had the GUTS to run against her. Among the politicos, you'll find NO courage in Mississauga. (HEY! No Courage in Mississauga" That'd make a terrific title for a book!

It is time to be our cherished Past Mayor.

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" Ecclesiastes Chapter 3:1 It is time to be our cherished Past Mayor. Thank you for all that you have done, now take the next tough step and let the next generation (perhaps too late already - the one AFTER them?) come forward to get their feet wet, stumble and learn. Hopefully you will provide an important ear and wise counsel to a new mayor. I say this will all due respect and appreciation.

On yer mark! The Covert Campaign Doth Begin!

MissyNews writes, "Mayor Hazel McCallion made the not-so-surprising announcement today that she will run again in the upcoming 2010 municipal election." Expect City Staff, municipal employees otherwise residing in Mississauga, the Mississauga Board of Trade, especially Rogers Cable 10 TV, Mississauga Economic Development Office, every sycophant who ever benefited from the City's Corporate Grants to churn up the ol' Re-Election campaign so that Hazel McCallion can claim once again that she doesn't have to campaign. Signed, The Mississauga Muse

As I said, incumbent for life

No doubt McCallion will still be Mayor after the election, but I think she'll find the run-up a little rockier than it's been in the past. A lot of people are upset about the neglect and, to put it bluntly, the arrogance of the Mayor. I think they intend to challenge her with some pretty tough questions. Of course, she won't campaign, so maybe she'll just hide from those of us who'd like some explanations. The problem is that by now, so many have canonized her that most voters (and there not that many of those) will simply check off her name without having a clue what she stands for or how she runs the City.
