Activist interrupts inquiry

Angry.

Citizen journalist Donald Barber caused a slight delay at the Mississauga inquiry today when he was caught filming testimony
File photo

After commission counsel William McDowell pointed out the incident to inquiry commissioner Douglas Cunningham, Barber launched into a rant about his lack of access to video footage of the inquiry.  Barber was recording only audio.

"I really resent being bullied like this," Barber said, adding he can't access the live feed of proceedings because he doesn't have cable and only has dial-up internet at home.  Barber also claimed Rogers Cable, which is filming the inquiry for public access, has denied his requests for video.

"I'm a poor man with no cable and no access," he told the commissioner.  "I'm asking you to give me access."

Cunningham ordered Barber to stop recording and said he'll render a decision later.  He ruled earlier that the public will have access to video footage of testimony.

This is one of the signs isn't it

Okay, I think I heard trumpets and I'm pretty sure there are four guys on horses outside my window. The Muse and ConcernedResident working together to preserve... well I won't go there. I agree with Canadians, this is a Mississauga News problem and they could easily fix it, they just won't. There are several solutions but the simplest for them would be to simply go back to what we had for a while: offensives could add up but not cause anything to be deleted. I'd also have someone look at posts with high offensive counts and remove the ones that truly are offensive by whatever criteria the MN establishes. I WANT to be able to mark something offensive without having it disappear. This situation is ridiculous.

@ConcernedResident

We don't agree on much, but these offense button hitting trolls are something the Missy News outa deal with, cause it's their behaviours which are ridiculous and offensive.

@ ConcernedResident

For what it's worth, I've done a printscreen of everything from my 5:47 pm message on down. But right now both you and Mantis are at 2 "Offensives". Whether someone's targeting/silencing me --or you-two, it's the SAME mentalities. And I find it dreadful. I know a printscreen isn't much consolation for lost comments (yours and Mantis' are inevitable!). But it's important for people to know I've "kept" them.

I knew I'd find the Fiends of Hazel here

At last, something that doesn't implicate the Mayor, her cronies, and her son. Lucky for them. Watch how they'll try to turn this into a distraction. I wonder why the hazelbots aren't leaving comments at, say, http://www.mississauga.com/news/article/861468 "McCallion: A penchant for controversy". The Fiends are notably absent from any articles that document the FACTS that have come out that make the Mayor look bad. Don Barber is an easy target and of course, one they love to pick on. (I'll now be called a barbarite and insulted, that's the Fiends of Hazel way.) For the record, I don't support Don Barber but I do know for a fact he was persecuted (word chosen carefully) by the City. Nothing says more about Mantis than his constant mocking of the video evidence that proved that City Security lied about the incident.

Because maybe Barber got his internet up and running. Or maybe a supporter of his that frequents this site and openly admits to clicking offensive is trying to delete. Ah, another day in the life.

For the record.

But minus a lot of the details. I was happy for the access generously provided by the Commission and when I was told Rogers would do "gavel to gavel" telecasts, that's the way I went. We would tape them straight off the TV to computer. In mid-May I'd emailed Mr. Barber that I would share them all with him. We had a falling out. This was also the time of medical emergencies with my mother and then my father. I re-offered all the telecasts today. I'm copying them over on a hard drive right now to bring tomorrow --all save a couple I either forgot or had equipment failure with. I share the blame for this...

@Mantis

Let me answer! The Barbarians have learned that every post has to include either A) a negative reference about the Mayor; B) a reference to the inquiry; C) a negative reference about City staff or D) a negative reference to Corporate Security.

Really Have To Wonder

I really have to wonder....if this clown is as down on his luck as he claims to be....what the heck is he doing playing pretend journalist in the hearing room all day? Why isn't he out looking for work? Clearly he has no hope of ever finding work as an elected official and I'm sure his secret camera work isn't any better than his laughable political skills. Perhaps rather than playing self-appointed watch dog (court jester actually), perhaps he should be trying to better his situation.

Doesn't Baber want our vote as well? Is he not running for Mayor? Then he's out of his freakin mind. No one who wants our vote has testified yetm, so not sure where you get this "But, not as "funny" as some of the testimony we've been hearing about and from people who want us to vote for them, who can't remember if they attended meetings, don't read contracts, don't read minutes to meetings, can't remember and have no recollection, and "I didn't know I was"....." bullcrap from.

And just who is it who 'doesn't represent anyone other than himself"? Barber's 'embarrassing' , indeed. And the Mayor and buddies aren't?

Funny

It would have been funny if they had chased him around the court room in the same way that security had to chase him around council chambers to eject him that time. I swear that one of these days, I'm going to get that recording speed it up and set it to the Benny Hill "Yakety Sax" music. Pure comedy gold.

Moron

What a complete and utter moron. I can't say for a moment that I'm surprised that he's unable or unwilling to play by the rules that the rest of us follow. Why does this idiot think he has a right to disrupt these procedings, not to mention council meetings? He seems to believe that he is actually elected to represent people in this city the way he behaves. The truth is that he doesn't represent anyone other than himself. What they should have done is toss this dolt out and bar him from returning.
