Mississauga News - Aug. 26, 2010 - Letter by Bill Sholdice, Mississauga.

Was there a conflict?

Dear Editor:

Well, a lot of words and money are being spent at the big (Mississauga judicial) inquiry, but the bottom line is this: Was there a conflict or not?

That is the question.

What transpired after the fact is hogwash.

Do not Pass GO .. 2 Term limit

Comissions are usually earned with very hard work and great intelligence and people skills. Hanger on or bum on a log as referred to by another VP would not look good on the agent for sale sign on city hall. But what about past commissions and potential favours on land deals over the many years. More reason for a 2 term lmit. Thats enough time to finish the pool, fish pond and maybe get all the repairs done to the refinished basement. Say watch out for that truck load of LCD TV's Don't take those even if also free !! Back to Rome for confession. Do not pass GO Do not collect 200. Let it sit read page one

Let's start a "For the record, the bottomline" Mississauga Judicial Inquiry thread

We learned you can be a principle of a company no one has ever heard of standing to make $10-12 million dollars as a "visionary" of a $ 1 1/2 billion dollar project with a Grade 12 education and your real estate license suspended twice. We learned that Peter McCallion never really did anything at meetings except breathe in and out (yet he stood to make $10-12 million dollars as a "visionary" of a $ 1 1/2 billion dollar project). We know that to OMERS President and CEO, Michael "Peter McCallion is not a person of interest to me" Nobrega, Peter McCallion was nothing more than a "hangers on". TAG! Next!

re: "What transpired after the fact is hogwash"

Here's another. I suspect Bill Sholdice did not want it known the huge difference in ethics all the way up the chain between AIMCO and OMERS. [MISSISSAUGA JUDICIAL INQUIRY cross-examination by Mr. Don Jack, August 16, 2010]: Q: Yes, you have, and I'm going to ask the question again. Was it not of concern to you that Peter McCallion, who was involved in WCD -- that's also in the email -- that WCD was using the Mayor in Mr. Kitt's estimation? A: I would say no. Q: And what would you say to this suggestion, sir? Where you don't know but it looks like there might well be a serious conflict of interest, it's unwise to proceed. What do you say to that suggestion? A: Well, as I said to you, we had a contract. We had to abide by the contract. And I didn't see Peter -- Peter McCallion as a person of interest to me." Question. Nobrega kept repeating "Peter McCallion is not a person of interest to me". You think that was a phrase coached by the OMERS lawyers? You know? Like David O'Brien's "Sorry, I do

How about starting our own, "What transpired after the fact is hogwash" list?

For example, Bill Sholdice thinks Mississauga/Ontario/Canadian residents shouldn't know that the OMERS (Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement System) pension fund doesn't concern itself with conflict of interest policies. And that they won't consult/involve co-owners in negotiating agreements (indeed every evidence exists that they were trying to screw AIMCO). You know, stuff like that. What the Inquiry has revealed about MYTHissauga, OMERS and Les Autres. Related question. It's obvious why Hazel McCallion fought as she did to kill the Inquiry, but anyone else think that Saito, Mahoney and Prentice KNEW? (only one I'm not sure about is Mullin. But considering her Keep Taxes Down mantra, I suspect her motivation to kill the Inquiry was $$$$-related).

re: "What transpired after the fact is hogwash"

Anyone else considered the implications (past and present) in Michael Nobrega saying FIVE TIMES "Peter McCallion is not a person of interest to me" --and what that suggests about how OMERS (Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System) conducts its business? Unlike the Alberta-based AIMCO pension fund, OMERS never had a policy for conflict of interest! And other evidence suggests it has no ethical infrastructure either. A major player in Ontario sees nothing wrong with the son of a mayor visioning 10-12 million dollars in commission from a project while his mom's doing what best for the City and pushing the deal. Then you see an OMERS email that says "keep the City happy" is code for "keep the Mayor happy". kerrrripes!

Only what's best for the City (TRANSCRIPT July 27, 2010 "a" = Peter McCallion testifying)

Regarding Sholdice's comment, "What transpired after the fact is hogwash." Sholdice would like people not to know this! TRANSCRIPT Peter McCallion: Q: And you'd earn a commission on those. A: Yes. Q: Standard commission is what --25 percent for a unit like that? A: No. On a condominium, maybe one and a half (1 1/2). Q: One and a half (1 1/2). And so there were going to be something like two thousand (2,000) units over time? A: I think there was twenty-five hundred (2,500). Q: Twenty-five hundred (2,500), so it maybe a variance. So if it's two thousand (2,000) at 1 1/2 percent, then the upside or gross commission for you is $3 million, is that right? A: It'd probably be more than that. Q: More than that. So if you go to twenty-five hundred (2,500) it would be three million, seven fifty (3,750,000)? A: I think it's more like ten (10) or 12 million. Q: More like ten (10) or twelve (12) -- A: Yes.

Bill

Why is the Mayor expanding her energy and time negogiating with OMERS on behalf of her son instead of getting them to bury that Square One parking lot and turn the city center in to a try urban center? If you can't see this then you should put your house up for sale and move out of Mississauga. It has been people like you that have allowed this Mayor to get away with what she has for years. Watch how she is going to try to manipulate this up coming election.

Is Question on conflict to seek debate or truth and justice

The answer is coming from the five million dollar inquiry so retoric questions to distract from the truth with debate without knowledge leads astray. One may ask "Did the leafs loose the cup last year?" and get an obvious answer with all the facts. Focusing on the truth even though it will hurt many is the only way democracy can be preserved and Mississauga win

Was there a conflict? Mr. Sholdice have you been reading the News?

Have you sat in on the inquiry? Have you read "Municipal Conflict of Interest Law: A Law in Conflict Based on Interest" at http://www.weirfoulds.com/files/5107_ConflictLaws.pdf#pagemode=noneto Have you read Louie Rosella’s opinion in the Mississauga News? Particularly did you notice his statement: "this inquiry has heard repeatedly from the major players that she (our current Mayor) was putting pressure on the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) to get the deal done with her son's company... If that's not a major conflict of interest, I don't know what is."
