Mississauga News - Jan. 7, 2010 - Letter by Karen Carstensen

Grow up, councillor

Dear Editor:

Re: Parrish meltdown at Aielli restaurant dated. Dec. 9.

It seems even out on the town, (Ward 6 Councillor) Carolyn Parrish can not control her hate for (Mayor) Hazel McCallion.

Tearing up a poster from a window in a private business is stupid.  The whole evening calls questions to my mind, as it must to yours.

Who egged her on.  Her husband?  George Carlson or the mystery person who paid the bill?

Was this a business deal?  Meal, drinks, concert?  George Carlson is also a council member.  Was it reported to City Hall?  Who was this mystery payee?  Do any of you have friends that would do that for you?

She called it a “tension reliever.”  As usual, she blamed others for egging her on because her night out was spoiled when she saw a sign about support for our mayor.

Suck it up, Carolyn.

Disrespect is nothing new and is getting worse.

Voters expect a diligent, calm, respectful and intelligent leader.  They demand someone who they can trust not to embarrass them or our city.

Maybe it is time for Ms. Parrish to get a lesson in civics and civility.  The next election can not come soon enough.

Think About It    Jan 9, 2010 4:16 PM

Fraternity birds of the same feather

Rather than promising to cut their Mayoral salaries by 10% and freezing it for the remainder of terms, two seagulls fighting for the same fish are taking the higher tax road unofficially declaring themselves first and second place winners bogarting most of the media attention on themselves.

Stephen, me-thinks (regrettably) that I was right

1. MISSISSAUGA INC runs Mississauga. 2. MISSISSAUGA INC prospers on secrecy (while touting "accountabilty and transparency"). 3. MISSISSAUGA INC does not want residents to know THEY run Mississauga. 4. To protect/perpetuate the MYTH of MYTHissauga ("It's all Hazel") MISSISSAUGA INC **must find** a Hazel2 at any costs. 5. Seems today's Ted "Friend of Hazel" Woloshyn's column has unfortunately proven me right. See http://tinyurl.com/yady7dp

Missy News egged me on

Lord be geeez Missy News editorial types, whom choose letters for editors for this here publication. Are you feeding these suckers to me just for fun, or are you seriously just givin every wunnabee a chance to expressing thar opium inion. I have tried and tried to be ah voiden this temptation to comment but I a feels that you bin a eggen me on. Now I am a gonna have to waste my time and yours to goes on a bit about this here

Meltdown

This descriptive has already been overused and talked about, but I guess I will have to repeat my earlier comment. The description of the incident as reported by the prime witness to the meltdown of Councillor Parrish indicates Carolyn took down an outdated poster, tore it into four pieces, then smirking and laughing she stepped on them. Definitely silly, kind of rude and certainty inappropriate behavior for a public figure; but a meltdown it was not.

Out on the town

Going to a restaurant in Port Credit is considered going out on the town? If it is then is the writer opining that there is something wrong with that?

Stephen Wahl     Jan 9, 2010 11:53 AM

Cannot control her hate

Although Carolyn Parrish has some serious differences with some of the Mayors actions, she does not hate Mayor McCallion and the Mayor does not hate Carolyn Parrish. To categorically state such an opinion as the writer has could be considered libelous.

Stephen Wahl     Jan 9, 2010 11:52 AM

Tearing up a poster

I will just repeat myself yet again. The description of the incident as reported by the prime witness to the incident indicates Carolyn took down an outdated poster and tore it into four pieces

Stephen Wahl     Jan 9, 2010 11:52 AM

In a private business

In a public restaurant open to the public

Stephen Wahl     Jan 9, 2010 11:51 AM

Is stupid

Noooo your stupid. No. YOUR stupid. No Im not your stupid. I am not. You ARE. . . .

Stephen Wahl     Jan 9, 2010 11:51 AM

Who egged her on

What does it matter

Stephen Wahl     Jan 9, 2010 11:50 AM

Mystery person who paid the bill

Whether they were two couples or just four friends going out together, there is nothing unusual or nefarious about one person picking up the check for a diner for four. In fact it would have been unusual for the restaurant to issue separate checks. What did the other patrons in the restaurant have to eat and drink, and who from their table picked up the cheque. Im sure that if the restaurant owner had known the name of the fourth person he would have been indiscrete and rude enough to disclose it.

Stephen Wahl     Jan 9, 2010 11:50 AM

She called it a tension reliever

And it was for the moment and then it backfired. What is your point?

Stephen Wahl     Jan 9, 2010 11:49 AM

Disrespect is nothing new and getting worse

Yes it is. Carolyns act of disrespect prompted the restaurant owner to escalate the situation by showing great disrespect to the other 3 people dining with Carolyn by disclosing private information about them to the general public. The restaurant owner has also shown great disrespect to his past and present customers by making them conscious of the fact that their personal information, tastes, finances and relationships could be disclosed on a whim should the owner or staff ever feel slighted.

Stephen Wahl     Jan 9, 2010 11:49 AM

Voters expect a diligent leader

Diligent? Well how then did the Borealis veto power thingy just slip through? How do the Minutes of meetings get altered?

Stephen Wahl     Jan 9, 2010 11:48 AM

Next election cannot come soon enough

You mean like before the Inquiry is finished?

Mantis reveals disappearance of 5,566 Mississaugans!

Mantis claims there are about 5 Barber supporters in Mississauga and they are all posting here. Since the last municipal election, 5,566 voters must have vanished. Apparently we, the only ones left, are ruining the Mississauga News for Mantis. (To that I say, YAY!) Except... searching the posts here doesn't turn up even five Barber supporters. Only the Muse has ever expressed support for Barber, and that was carefully qualified. Now Mantis, you're not assuming that anyone who posts an opinion opposing yours supports Barebr are you? Because that would be, you know, monumentally stupid.

Mantis     Jan 8, 2010 10:51 AM

Ms. Carstensen Is Absolutely Correct

Ms. Carstensen is absolutely correct. Parrish is a disgrace to this city. We need to ensure that she loses and loses big in the coming municipal election. About the only person that I wouldn't vote for in order to defeat her is Donald Barber. It's funny how there are about 5 Barber supporters in the city of Mississauga and they are responsible for posting about 90% of the stuff that gets plastered all over this site. It's at the point where nobody bothers to read the blogs because they don't make any sense and it's all the same tired old rubbish. Look at the feedback comments to articles and letters - it's the same thing. Post after post after post by the same handful of people who have completely obliterated the utility of that particular site feature through their repeated inane and usually completely off-base and nonsense rantings.

* Agree 2    -    Disagree 3    -    Offensive 1

The Mississauga Muse     Jan 7, 2010 11:16 PM

Oh.

And this City doesn't embarrass! To be capable of embarrassment demands a conscience as a pre-requisite.
