Someone should pay

Dear Editor:

Some residents are very unhappy about Peter McCallion being funded by Mississauga taxpayers to the tune of $100,000 and possibly much more during the judicial inquiry.

Since his attempted business venture never came to anything, why not just drop the guy from the inquiry and save us this cost?

By any accounts, the inquiry is primarily aimed at discrediting the Mayor by a person who can’t wait to occupy her chair. The mayor’s son is being dragged into this simply to inflict as much collateral damage as possible. This tactic is sometimes applied during armed conflicts just ‘to teach them a lesson’.

However, if any taxpayer is targeted for whatever reason by the people we elect, and whose lawyers we must pay for, it would be unfair to make that taxpayer personally responsible for the resulting costs, regardless of his/her economic circumstances.

If this inquiry turns out to have wasted millions of taxpayers’ dollars with little to show in the end, we must make sure that the people who imposed this expense on us will never get another chance at any office in the City of Mississauga.

I'm going to make it official now.

I've been reading Tom Urbaniak's book "Her Worship Hazel McCallion" --where Urbaniak provides a history of the entrenched elite/developer "Friends of Hazel" even before McCallion moved into Streetsville from Quebec. Holy Jumpin'! They were "entrenched" even longer than I'd ever imagined! Anyway, it is this self-serving power-group that runs Mississauga --"Friends of Hazel" that exemplifies so much of what's wrong and corrupt in how we are governed. I've come to view these people as "gangs" (each group with their own turf letting each other corrupt and let corrupt) because keeping taxes low while protecting property values is all that matters to these people. And frighteningly they all warble from the same vile song sheet. But the people I blame most are Traditional Media who KNOW. And remain silent.

Perhaps the “Friends of Hazel” mob should pay for it. They have been supporting this mother and son to mess up with the city’s affairs even without a paper trail. Oops…..the city’s communiqu? comes with the note: “destroy after reading”.
