Mississauga News - Mar. 9, 2010 - Letter by Jo Ann & George Hogg

Another tantrum

Dear Editor:

Our recent letter to you has inadvertently provided the platform from which (Ward 6) Councilor Carolyn Parrish has thrown yet another tantrum.

Lost in her bombast is the essential point that she and others on Council have failed to fulfill their obligation to Mississauga residents. It is not unreasonable to expect Council to be alert to possible indiscretions such as conflict of interest, and so prevent it at its origin.

Parrish saying she would make “No apologies for seeking the truth,” (Letter to the editor, The News, March 3) is a pathetic conclusion to her rant.

Now, without apology, we are faced with legal bills to investigate not only the validity of the conflict of interest allegations, but also the defense of those suspected of the offence.

So, the (inquiry) continues at our (the ratepayers’) expense. Is it conceivable that there are heads on Council cooler than that of Parrish who would consider reasonable alternatives?

Watcher, I'm not sure but I think the Ombudsman would've been better than a Judicial Inquiry

Must stress, very unsure about this. I DO know that the Ontario Ombudsman has subpoena powers --meaning, his Office has the authority to just show up and start collecting files. That's why municipalities are so terrified to allow his Authority into the MUSH Sector. As I understand it, this Judicial Inquiry is dependent on City of Mississauga handing over all necessary documents/emails etc. Given my recent experience with them avoiding admitting that an email they claimed "in fact" was sent me (actually had to file Freedom of Information to confirm its non-fate) I can't imagine these people on the up&up having over self-implicating material. And ultimately the end game would be the same. Judicial Inquiry. Ontario Ombudsman. No power to bust @$$ when's all said and done.

System sucks because that is the plan.

No cheap and easy way to deal with politicians gone bad, because it is about creating jobs for judges etc., at our expense, as the Canadian way. An inquiry is necessary as to be judged by those you work with at Council and make political deals with, is clearly Conflict of Interest. Maybe the Ombudsman would be cheaper, after all it is about seeing if there could be an illegal act, not if one for sure. We don’t need the full dog and pony show and if we do, higher levels of government should help pay the costs. After is honest government not worth it?

TRUTH is a Stranger at City of Mississauga

Just watch any Council meeting video. Then read the minutes when they come out. End. Of. Story.

To ComeOn, Uatu and Canadians.

Now I'm not sure whether Jo Ann and George Hogg are "Friends of Hazel". It really doesn't matter. But when you read their letter, try and find one fact. This lack of fact/science (aka lack of scrutiny) partially explains how the City of Mississauga got to be the unethical, malgovernance crap-pile we're face with now. You may recall my Freedom of Information research into Hazel's City Security guards and findings of Abuse of Authority, zero oversight, "no responsive records" or inadequate records or biased records, falsifying documents, non-compliance to Corporate policies, fraudulent complaints process (there's more), seems the City of Toronto ombudsman found a similar crap-pile in T.O. Please read "City parks staff rebuked for banning abusive man Decision to indefinitely bar allegedly abusive man from facilities was 'unjust,' ombudsman rules" at: http://tinyurl.com/ygfa78q and keep in mind that City of Mississauga is WORSE. Hopefully this Judicial Inquiry will lead to significant changes in provincial legisl

How Can This Outrage You Yet Mayor Hazel Deletes Evidence Does Not?

Did anyone buy the excuse that the Mayor's email is deleted moment by moment. How convenient. Oh but wait... the City can retrieve these documents from their servers. SHHHHHHHHHH this is no time for reality when we can rant on about some non-issue and pretend it is the core of the problem. Bring it a computer expert or 12 year old kid and retrieve the "lost" files. Done.

Speak for yourselves, Hoggs

I don't know who the Hoggs are, but they emphatically do not speak for me. Councillors are obliged to make sure frauds like the Enersource contract are not perpetrated on the citizens of Mississauga. They are NOT supposed to ignore them because investigating would cost too much. The Hoggs have no clue whatsoever how much the bungled Enersource contract or the attempted World Class Developments deal have cost us, but they insist it's cheaper not to find out. How can we prevent corruption if we don't investigate suspicious undertakings like these? Instead of engaging in personal attacks on Councillor Parrish, Hoggs, answer me that.

Mr. and Mrs. HOGG on the records.

The Mayor seems to have hogg-tied this tag team. This is yet another diversion by Team Hazel. The pork is that their Starr Mayor doesn't keep records on her Shipp unless she wants to...May I suggest that the Hoggs switch from slinging the mud and mud-wrestle the record-keeping into the history books of this city.
