The Mississauga judicial inquiry will begin on May 25 and is expected to last well into the summer.

Anticipated hearing dates were released on the weekend, with proceedings scheduled until Aug. 19. Hearings will be held at Mississauga Provincial Court, at 950 Burnhamthorpe Rd. W., in front of inquiry commissioner Douglas Cunningham.

The $2.5-million inquiry will, among other undertakings, probe conflict of interest allegations against Mayor Hazel McCallion and the role of her son, Peter McCallion, in a $14.4-million failed bid by World Class Developments Ltd. (WCD) to purchase a 3.5-hectare parcel of land owned by the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).

WCD hoped to build a hotel and convention centre on the land in the City Centre.  The deal eventually fell through.

(The deal involved private meetings between Mayor McCallion, the developer and OMERS, while zoning of the land was still before Council. OMERS subsequently sold the land to the City of Mississauga, which, in turn, leased it to Sheridan College.)

The anticipated hearing dates are:
May 25-28,
May 31-June 3,
June 7-9,
June 14-17,
June 28-30,
July 5-8,
July 19-22,
July 26-29,
Aug. 9-12 and Aug. 16-19.

Good

It's good to see that the inquiry is going to start on May 25th. Let's get on with clearing the Mayor's name, or not. Either way we need to know the how this evolves before we go to the polls in October.
