National Post - Nov. 12, 2009 - By Megan O'Toole.

Mississauga Councillors will keep watch over cost of inquiry

Mississauga councillors passed a motion yesterday requesting monthly reports on expenses related to a pending judicial inquiry that will examine, among other things, Mayor Hazel McCallion's involvement in a land deal arranged by her son.  The inquiry has ignited controversy throughout the city, dividing council and drawing a chorus of protest from residents who see it as an attack on the Mayor.  Katie Mahoney, pictured, one of the councillors opposing the inquiry, introduced the motion, which asks staff to provide reports each month on "all up-to-date expenses" related to the process.  The motion passed with no dissent.  In recent weeks, the scope of the inquiry has expanded, and will now examine an undetermined number of allegedly suspect deals involving the City of Mississauga.
