National Post - Oct. 28, 2009 - By Megan O’Toole

Council ignores citizens, votes for McCallion Inquiry

Despite an overwhelming show of protest from residents, Mississauga city councillors yesterday voted to move ahead with a judicial inquiry that will examine, among other things, Mayor Hazel McCallion's involvement in a land deal arranged by her son.

It was standing room only in a packed council chamber as one after another, residents stood up to speak out against the inquiry, forecast to cost taxpayers upwards of $2-million.  Some cried, some shouted and others read calmly from prepared letters, but the message remained the same:  Mississauga citizens are confident in the mayor's abilities, and want her spared from a drawn-out inquiry process.

Did we witness the same meeting? The room was half empty and of that only 2/3 of the crowd was there for her. Once again, look at the video and tell me I am wrong!

Hazel is not above the law. I realize there are those who feel she should be allowed to do as she pleases but lucky for the rest of us the rule of law still applies even in Mississauga.

I am sorry but you guys need to get over the love affair with Hazel and look at what she has done (by her own admission) and what has become clear she has done (by reading her press release of January 9 and the emails from the lawyers in the land deal and looking at the timeline of meetings). I am no journalist but you guys are and you really should read that stuff before you pronounce her innocent so quickly.
